Patent Process

As a (future) client of Cramwinckel Consultancy I invite you to contact me by phone. In this telephone conversation I can indicate whether I or a fellow patent attorney from my extensive network can best support you.

Octrooiarts provides services to approximately 25 clients from the Netherlands, Belgium and the United States. The policy is to support this client base as much as possible and for that reason, in principle, no new clients will be added to this exclusive group.

No manual - but clear explanations

A new idea is preferably discussed at the client’s office or during an online call.

The patent process is quite complex. But that doesn’t mean that you have to figure it all out for yourself. At Octrooiarts you don’t get long web texts or legal diagrams, but a clear story – tailored to your situation. In a conversation, I take you step by step through the procedure.

Below you will find the most important steps listed:

  1. Introduction & intake
We discuss your idea and what you want to achieve with it. You will get a first impression of the feasibility and next steps.

  2. Patent search
We examine whether your invention is truly new, and whether similar patents already exist. This way we avoid surprises and increase the chances of success.

  3. Prepare patent application
Is the idea promising? Then I will draft the patent application for you – clear, legally strong and tailored to your goals.

  4. Submission & Procedure
We submit your initial application to the Netherlands Patent Office or the European Patent Office and after a year we review whether further international applications are needed. I supervise the entire process and keep you informed.

  5. Renewal & aftercare
The renewal process in the various countries is supervised, up to the point of renewal if possible. After grant, Octrooiarts
can assist you in infringement matters on your patent. Should the Patent Attorney himself be unable to represent your interests, a qualified back-up patent attorney is available to you.
